Email - Setting up Outlook Express 5/6

Making a New Mail AccountHere is a step by step guide showing you how to make a new mail account in Outlook Express in Windows.
  • Open Outlook Express.
  • From the Outlook Express Window, click onto the Tools menu and select Accounts.
  • From the Internet Account page, click onto the Add button on the top right and then select Mail.
  • Type in the Name that you want attached to your emails.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Check that you have a dot next to I already have an email address that I'd like to use.
  • Type in your Techminds email address. For new users this is your User Name with @techminds.com.np after it. If you have an email alias you can specify it as your email address, in place of your main Techminds email address which you may want to keep private from potential spammers.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Check that My incoming mail server is set to POP3.
  • Type in pop3.techminds.com.np for the Incoming mail server.
  • Type in smtp.techminds.com.np for the Outgoing mail server.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Type in your Techminds User Name in the Account name box.
  • Type in your Techminds password in the Password box.
  • If the password box is greyed out then put a tick in the Remember Password box so that you can type in your password.

    Please check that the User Name you type in is not in the wrong capitalisation because User Names and passwords are case sensitive. The password you type in shows up as a bunch of stars to keep it private.

  • Click the Next button.
  • Almost done! Click the Finish button.
  • You should now see an account called pop3.techminds.com.np in the Account column.
  • Click on the account name pop3.techminds.com.np then select Properties.
  • Click the Connection tab at the top of the page.
  • Put a tick next to Always connect to this account using.
  • Check that the drop-down menu below reads Techminds.
  • Click the OK button.
  • Click the Close button at the bottom of the Internet Accounts page.
  • This should take us back to the main Outlook Express page.
  • Click on the Tools menu and then select Options.
  • Click the Connection tab at the top of the window.
  • For dial up connections, if you want your phone line to be free after you check your email, put a tick next to Hang up after sending and receiving. Otherwise, if you want your computer to stay connected to the Internet, or have a NoLimit HimDSL connection, don't tick this option.
  • Click the OK button.
  • Close Outlook Express.
  • All done!
When you restart Outlook Express by you should be all set to use it for sending and receiving email.

Information for users with more than one Mail Account

When you send email it appears to come from which ever of the accounts is set as the default account.

To set your Default Mail Account.
  • Open Outlook Express and then open the Tools menu.
  • Click on Accounts.
  • Click onto the Account you want to set as the default account, then click on the Set as Default button.

The default account has the word Default in brackets in the Type column.

When you download your email you will download from all of the accounts at the same time, unless you use the Tools menu and Select each account individually in the Send and Receive submenu.
